Helene Weis Memorial Education Fund: One of the many objectives of the Stained Glass Association of America is the preservation and transmission of historic stained glass knowledge. One of the great keepers of that knowledge was Helene Weis. Helene lived the history of American stained glass, and, as the archivist for the Willet Studios for more than 50 years, she cataloged and preserved tens of thousands of stained glass designs. When Helene Weis passed away in 2007, she took so much with her — her warmth, her spirit, and so much of her knowledge. The Stained Glass School, to honor her and to honor the importance she held for stained glass history, set up the Helene Weis Memorial Education Fund upon her passing. With Henry Weis, it was decided that these funds would be dedicated to creating a library in Helene’s honor. The Stained Glass School is in the process of buying land to build an architectural stained glass school. Helene’s library will be the core of the learning that will take place there. As a writer of both non-fiction and fiction with stained glass themes, there is no place better to honor her than among the books, journals, and slides she worked for so many years to collect and organize for both the Stained Glass Association of America and the Stained Glass School. If you would like to honor Helene Weis and support the Stained Glass School that she so strongly believed in, send your tax-deductible donations to The Stained Glass School, Attn: Helene Weis Memorial Education Fund, 9313 E. 63rd Street, Raytown, MO 64133. Please make out checks to Helene Weis Memorial Education Fund. If you would like to make your donation using a credit card, please call the SGAA Headquarters at 800.438.9581 with your information.
I I am considering purchasing a Maitland Armstrong stained glass window. Can you heop me identify it as an authentic armstrong window?
Thank you
The Stained Glass Association of America accredits studios for their art and craft ability; however, we don’t certify appraisers. You’ll need to find a qualified appraiser to make a study of the window to determine its authenticity. The American Society of Appraisers would be one place to start.
I am a studio ower who is selling business and looking to relocate to a different city. Can you tell me if you know of a site that lists stained glass employment opportunities
I don’t know of a site with any extensive list of stained glass job openings. However, if you ask your question in the SGAA Discussion Forum (http://sgaaonline.com/talk/index.php), perhaps someone there will be able to help you.
